I am still looking for a good handle bar tape that feels good. My preference is cork but last few brands have not faired so well.
Handle bar tape
Giro helmet
A good fitting helmet can save your life, the giro helmet is what fits me fine for every day road or mountain bike riding. For time trailing the Louis Garneau Rocket air with the clear visor has worked well for me. http://www.louisgarneau.com/ca-en/products/305554/AeroTT
Tacx water bottles
My favorite bottles so far are the www.tacx.com water bottles. I taste the least amount of plastic in the water and the bottle does not break down as quick as other brands. So far the cap has stayed on good even when dropped.
Wheels built with
- mavic open pro rims
- Ultegra Hub
- DT Swiss double butted spokes
A reliable training wheel, good for 15,000 km so long as maintenance is kept up. For some 30,000 km depending on riding style.
Zipp 404
The tubular Zipp 404’s are a reliable choice for time trailing. http://zipp.com/
Vittoria Rubin Pro
I have found the Rubin Pro’s are good for time trails and not a fan of using them for heavy cornering.
For using them racing the 23 mm, I like to have less then 1,500 km on them and for the 20 mm I like to have less then 800 km.
For max life span the 23 mm seam to be in the 2,500 to 3,000 km range and the 20 mm at 1,000 to 1,500 km. Keep in mind I am hard on my tires so your mileage may be better.
Michelin Pro Race
The Michelin Pro Race 23 mm and 20 mm have done fairly well in races. They grip well in dry and wet conditions. Good for cornering.
For using them racing the 23 mm, I like to have less then 1,500 km on them and for the 20 mm I like to have less then 1,000 km.
For max life span the 23 mm seam to be in the 3,000 to 3,500 km range and the 20 mm at 1,500 to 2,000 km. Keep in mind I am hard on my tires so your mileage may be better.
I been threw quite a few Michelin carbon tires, they last around 5000 to 6000 km. Very resistant to glass, rocks, pot holes and so on. Even done a couple of weekend crits in Brooklyn, New York with them.
For lighter riders, close to 100 lbs, they seam to last forever.
I carry a mini pump to get me out of a pinch, often I am 50 km from the nearest bike shop. The Topeak Mini pump, more so has got me out of bad spots a number of times. Topeak Mini
Overall Topeak products have been kind to me.
The stand has worked well, I put two bikes on it and lean one beside it at the base.
